Review: Hotel - PARKROYAL, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Recently, I went up to KL on a business trip and stayed at the PARKROYAL. I would have preferred to stay at Westin, a perennial favourite, given its location (directly opposite the Pavillion shopping mall and next to Starhill Gallery).

This was my first time staying here and I was not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised in terms of the quality of the rooms, hotel ambience and the location.

Location
The hotel is actually very close to Bukit Bintang, a shopping stretch and just 5 mins walk to the Westin. They are connected by small roads. Another local shopping mall Lot 10 is just down the road along Jalan Sultan Ismail.

Hotel Ambience
The hotel has a nice feel to it, especially the Third Floor Lobby. If you stay on the Third Floor, as I did, it feels like walking out into a mini Japanese Garden when you leave the room. The candle lamps, rocks, granite chips and bamboo like plants create a very Zen feel.

Room Quality
I was upgraded to an Executive Suite, which was fairly large - it came with a small couch in the corner. It is not luxurious but definitely very comfortable. The toilets are a good size and very clean. You can get rooms with breakfas included for as low as RM 315 on their website if you take the advance payment option (non-refundable).

It is quite good value for money, since they do serve a very decent Asian buffet breakfast at the coffeeshop in the basement. You get your regular western breakfast selection (pastries, eggs, beans, bacon and sausages) or you can opt for the local selection (Nasi Lemark, Fried noodles, some dim sum etc.)

The PARKROYAL is a very decent business hotel. Nevertheless, I would still prefer the Westin simply because I am a loyal Starwood fan and I also like the Westin's location.
